Founder, President, CEO
Eya Massan Touglo is Founder and Chief Executive Director of FULFILLING DESTINY, a non-profit organization, serving homeless, underprivileged, and underserved women in the San Diego area. Born in Togo, West Africa, Eya moved to the United State of America in 2004. Eya graduated with her Bachelor degree from San Diego State University in Health Communication in 2017. Driven by the desire to help others, Eya has worked with a variety of persons needing medical care including convalescent care, Alzheimer, and dementia patients in memory care and young adults with intellectual disabilities. A very optimistic person, Eya believes she can be a help in the midst of the great needs around her. Her dream and vision are to create a mean to encourage and empower the especially vulnerable women in her community. Eya believes that women health is very important and she is dedicated to helping bring awareness of the lack of feminine hygienic products for homeless women and additional issues homeless women face. Most importantly, Eya is excited to be the voice of the voiceless.
Patricia Reed is a licensed MA, MFT 33142, founder and director of New Hope Counseling since 1993. Patricia has always been concerned about the inequities in the treatment of women and believes that she needs to be actively involved with others, regard all who are needy as her neighbors, and not rely on someone else to see, act and offer help in time of need. In addition to 24 years of experience as a Marriage Family and Child Therapist, Patricia is involved in the deacon ministry at Christ Community Church in Milpitas, where she met Eya Touglo in 2008. She completed her Bachelor’s Degree Psychology at San Francisco State University, Certificate Biblical Studies, Simpson College, and holds a Masters Degree (MA MFT 33142) from Santa Clara University.

Dr. Rachael Record
Rachael A. Record, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the School of Communication at San Diego State University. She earned her B.A. (2009) in Communication from SUNY, University at Buffalo and her M.A. (2011) and Ph.D. (2014) in Communication from the University of Kentucky. She also earned a Graduate Certificate in Health Communication (2011) and in Applied Statistics (2013) from the University of Kentucky. Dr. Record teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in health communication, including Introduction to Health Communication, Community Health Communication, Health Communication & Culture, Persuasion, and Health Communication Campaigns. Her research examines health communication strategies–specifically campaigns, interventions, and social media– in order to improve public health. Her research has been published in the academic journals of Health Communication, Journal of Applied Communication Research, Journal of Health Communication, American Journal of Health Promotion, and others.
Monica graduated from San Diego State University in December 2018 where she majored in Business Management, with a double minor in TFM (Television, Film, and New Media) and Leadership Development, and is currently residing in Los Angeles, CA. In her last semester she created Students Against Human Trafficking. Their mission is to help survivors of human trafficking through various service opportunities, as well as spread awareness about the dangers of trafficking to the SDSU community through outreach events. Monica joined Fulfilling Destiny upon learning that many women experience period poverty and must resort to various outcomes, including missing out on their education and selling their bodies in order to get money to buy menstrual products. Monica plans to continue educating her friends, family, and the community about the real existence of both period poverty and human trafficking. Monica hopes that with her actions and involvement with Fulfilling Destiny and other organizations, she can encourage everyone she interacts with to live everyday with love.

Melanie is born and raised in the Philippines. Earned her degree in Bachelor of Science in Accountancy at Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology where she also received the highest co-curricular award, Institute Leadership Award. She moved to American in 2005 and was living in Japan for 6 years prior to that. Melanie has served as a board member for I Love a Clean San Diego between 2016-2018 and is passionate about climate change. She worked for Wells Fargo Bank Na between 2005-2018 holding various positions, the final one being Assistant Vice President-Branch Manager. Melanie is currently the branch manager at US Bank Clairemont and Genesee Branch in San Diego. She is also the founder and CEO at The House of Plants Limited Liability Co.
Grant Writer & strategic program manager
Kendra Straub is a community advocate dedicated to improving marginalized communities’ lives by utilizing data, research, and evaluation. She has held leadership positions at multiple nonprofits across San Diego County for the past five years and has a proven track record of supporting nonprofits in strategic planning, engaging in continuous quality improvement, and ensuring data-driven decision making. Her dedication to capturing the impact of social services, maintaining fidelity in program delivery, and establishing good stewardship has led to nonprofit sustainability and meeting society’s most vulnerable needs.
She is a nationally recognized expert in her field and an established profile in local government, higher education, and the nonprofit sector. As the MAAC Project’s Senior Data Manager, she utilized her dynamic leadership to oversee organization wide staff learning initiatives, implemented standardization of program outcomes data collection, and developed strategic plans for long-term growth and innovation. During her time as the Applied Research Analyst at the YMCA of San Diego Community Support Services, she honed her grant writing, program evaluation, and impact data storytelling skills. She gained experience as a researcher in qualitative and quantitative methodologies during her time at San Diego State University, and Kendra started her career with the San Diego Democratic Party, providing strategic communication planning.
Kendra holds a Master’s Degree in Communication with an emphasis in applied research and statistics from San Diego State University. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science with a minor in Ethnic Studies from Northern Arizona University.
Kendra resides in San Diego along with her husband. In her free time, Kendra will be found taking care of her houseplants, lost in her library, or dragging her friends and family to plays and museums every chance she gets.
Community Outreach Leader
Nicole Deis, born and raised in San Diego, she recently graduated from San Diego State University with a BS in Health Communication. She was the Vice President of the Health Communication Student Organization. Currently working on her Graduate degree in Nonprofit Leadership and Management at the University of San Diego. Her ultimate goal is to help bridge the gap in healthcare disparities, focusing on prevented healthcare catering to Women. During her studies, Nicole honed her passion for standing up for injustices during her studies, including inequalities for women of all different social-economic status. Being introduced to Eya by Dr. Record, hearing the passion she has for Fulfilling Destiny, and helping the women in her community was a turning point for Nicole as she saw an opportunity to make a difference in her community. In her spare time, Nicole enjoys traveling and spending time with family, friends, and she recently rescued her fur baby, Valentino.
Special Project Director
Gabby is a CSUSM graduated with a BS in Kinesiology. She is currently in graduate school for her Masters in Public Health with a concentration in Health Promotion and Education. She currently works at Sharp Grossmont Hospital as a Nurse Assistant. Eventually, she would like to become an epidemiologist or a communicable disease investigator. Gabby was born and raised in San Diego, CA but currently resides in Chula Vista around the Eastlake area. Since quarantine her hobbies include reading, baking, taking care of my plants, walking my two dogs, being a foodie, and exploring different parks and having picnics with my boyfriend. I also really love strawberry ice cream and anything with matcha!
Gabby is very passionate about health and self-care. She hopes to make an impact within the community through this internship and can’t wait to work with everyone these upcoming months.
Grant Writing Intern
Jan-Marini Pacleb is a 24-year old, cis-woman (she/her/hers), currently living in Chula Vista, California. She graduated from San Diego State University in 2018 with a degree in Biology (BS) and a minor in Social Psychology. Currently, she is applying to medical schools since it’s a big dream of hers. Other than this new volunteering experience, for the past five years, She has been a hospice volunteer for Kaiser Permanente Hospice Program, where she provides emotions, spiritual support, and companionship with terminally ill patients. It’s because of her future aspirations of being a doctor, that Jan-Marini wanted to branch out and find ways to broaden her knowledge of cultural relativism by supporting various groups of people (LGBTQA+, the elderly, youth groups, and now women’s reproductive support groups).
Other than that, I love sleeping in, playing with my guitar, playing video games and sketching art work for my friends and family. Fun fact I really have a big Pikachu obsession!

Community Outreach Intern
Graduated from UCSD in 2018 with her BS in Human Biology. Jas is a premed student and want to pursue an MD/ MPH with a focus on comprehensive sex education. She founds Fulfilling Destiny after researching local organizations in San Diego that address issues related to sexual/reproductive rights. She is excited to be a part of the Fulfilling Destiny (FD) community and look forward to learning and connecting with everyone! Jas is also excited to help expand FD’s mission to young adults/young menstruators in the community she grew up in with the hopes of inspiring them to be an active participant in advocating for their bodies’ rights.
Jas is also a dog/cat mom and an avid animal lover. She also love to spend a lot of time experimenting and learning in the kitchen and also love the art scene in San Diego (local creatives, music, art, fashion, photography, etc.)
Jayzle-May (she/they) proudly serves as Fulfilling Destiny’s Executive Assistant. Prior to working as an Executive Assistant, Jayzle-May served many different roles within Fulfilling Destiny including Volunteer Coordinator and Social Media Manager.
Outside of Fulfilling Destiny, Jayzle-May works as a Kindergarten teacher in Las Vegas.
Jayzle-May graduated from San Diego State University in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration-Accounting and a Bachelor of Arts in Women’s Studies. She is currently attending the University of Nevada – Las Vegas for a Master’s of Education in Curriculum and Instruction.
Jayzle-May is passionate about serving the community and building lasting relationships. If she could choose one word to describe her personality, it would be service. Giving to others has always given her such joy, and everything she does is almost always in service of other people or the community.
When she is not working, she spends her time volunteering for different organizations across San Diego, including the San Diego Pride, Project Helping, and Dreams for Change.

Jessica Palaganas is a Public Health Major at San Diego State University with a minor in Counseling and Social Change. She is excited to be working with Fulfilling Destiny and eager to learn more about the work of a non-profit organization. Through learning about health disparities and social inequities, she has become passionate about addressing these issues and learning more about how to make an impact. With Fulfilling Destiny expanding to her hometown of San Jose, CA, she is excited for the opportunity to make a difference in her local community.
Social Media Manager
Monica Kerolos is a Junior at Point Loma Nazarene University. She is majoring in Biology with a minor in Criminal Justice. She loves to read, cook (not a big fan of baking), and binge watch crime shows on Hulu. Mariza is very excited to join the Fulfilling Destiny team as she would love to be a part of a wonderful organization helping to promote the Dignity and Respect of all women, especially those most forgotten in our society, and aid in providing safe access to feminine hygiene products thus taking one step forward in eradicating period poverty.
Community Outreach Intern
Mariza Zaratan (she/her) is thrilled to intern with Fulfilling Destiny! She is currently a nursing student at SDSU and will graduate this December. Mariza is really passionate about women’s and children’s health and hope to work in these specialties soon! She has lived in San Diego for almost her whole life and enjoys finding new places to explore & support (especially plant nurseries and coffee shops!). Mariza’s jack russell/chihuahua has been her best friend since she was 7 years old and even more so in these times. The pandemic has allowed her to invest time in new hobbies, like sewing and reading, and also allocate time for some much-needed self-care and reflection. Mariza is excited about this opportunity and to be a part of the Fulfilling Destiny Team.

Albert Lau is a senior at San Diego State University majoring in Business Administration – Management. He is committed to helping the community around him and serving those that are in need. He hopes to one day own a business that will help those that are in need. His current hobbies include working out at the gym and learning more about new business ventures.
Ariana Garcia is 20 years old and a senior at San Diego State University. She is studying Political Science and Business Management. She loves to dance, sing, and hang out with friends. She hopes that interning with Fulfilling Destiny will bring her real-world experience working with a non-profit organization, and she hopes to take any information she learns along the way to inspire others.
Karla Celis, is a 4th year Political Science Major and Women’s Studies Minor at SDSU. She hopes to make a positive impact on the San Diego community by getting involved with Fulfilling Destiny.
Rachel Reyes is a senior at San Diego State University studying Business Management and is on the executive board for two organizations on campus – the Pacific Islander Student Association and Students Against Human Trafficking. With prior experience being on executive boards, she hopes that Fulfilling Destiny will help educate her even further and grant her even more exciting experiences!
In her free time, she enjoys practicing her photography and catching up with her friends over Boba or lunch.
Ruby Lynn is a senior at Grinnell College in Iowa, where she is majoring in Gender, Women’s, and Sexuality Studies. When she is not studying, she works as an assistant preschool teacher and leads a community dance class. Ruby is passionate about creating a safer, equitable, and compassionate world. She is excited about being part of the Fulfilling Destiny team!
