It’s April!

It’s April!

Hello everybody,

We hope you are staying safe and healthy.

As a Fulfilling Destiny family, we want to extend our thoughts and good wishes to you and yours in these strange and difficult times. We are here for you both virtually and in spirit — building a strong care community is so important.

This blog post will be very brief as we have postponed all of our events. As always, we are dedicated to prioritizing the well-being of our community. So, even though our events have been postponed, we are still finding ways to safely drop-off products to those in need.

Here are some March updates outlined in our newsletter:

Early in the month (before our stay-at-home order), Fulfilling Destiny hosted a Packing Party with the Association of Chicana Activists at the SDSU Women’s Resource Center. We are so grateful to everyone that came out, shared their stories about menstrual taboos and misconceptions, and helped assemble 37 tampon Dignity Bags and 41 pad Dignity Bags. Thank you so much for working to change the pervasive social and cultural narratives surrounding menstruation and helping to end period poverty in our community.

Fulfilling Destiny and the SDSU Baja Public Health Initiative got together again for another amazing Packing Party. With the help of so many amazing volunteers, we assembled over 120 Dignity Bags. Thank you to everyone that made this event possible. We are so grateful to be in such an impactful partnership.

Abiding by our state’s stay-at-home order, our Vice President Patricia Reed hosted a one-person Packing Party and assembled over 20 Dignity Bags for the LifeMoves Georgia Travis House. Thanks to Patricia for helping us to reach individuals across the state struggling with period poverty.

We also wanted to give a shoutout to the USC Gould School of Law’s Womxn of Color Collective for raising funds on behalf of Fulfilling Destiny through our Venmo. We could not do what we do without the continued financial support from so many amazing individuals. Thank you so much!

Some days to look out for (and celebrate at home) in April. We hope they make you smile:

April 10th: National Sibling Day

April 12th: Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day (Who doesn’t like a Grilled Cheese Sandwich?)

April 17th: National Cheeseball Day

April 20th: Volunteer Recognition Day

(We are ready to celebrate on April 20th! Ending period poverty in our community would be impossible without all our amazing volunteers. We are so grateful to everyone over the years who have helped Fulfilling Destiny grow and reach so many individuals in need. Thank you!)

April 22: Earth Day

April 27: National Tell A Story Day (Everyone has an amazing story to share, what’s yours?)

Here is how you can keep helping us:

We are continuing to accept donations in a variety of formats. If you have the means to donate we would really appreciate your help. In order to keep our community safe, we ask you to consider making a monetary donation before products in person. If you want to donate or have any further questions please visit our “ways to donate” on our website for more information or messages us directly. Thank you so much for helping us to fight period poverty in our community!

Even in these uncertain times, we are committed to empowering our community. We are stronger when we work together and support each other.
